Housing Both carousels are housed in structures dating to the 1930’s. No records have been found to confirm the dates of construction. Speculation that they were WPA projects seems well founded. Their similar construction styles provide minimum protection for the carousels. Raleigh’s two carousels are the last remaining antique carousels kept on dirt and woodchip or sawdust floors.
